Acting Head Named For Auditing Board
Staff Writer – New York Times

Securities Mosaic. December 3, 2005

_________________________________________________________________________

EXCERPT: Willis D. Gradison Jr. was named acting chairman of the auditing oversight board yesterday as the Securities and Exchange Commission outlined how it planned to select a permanent chairman and fill future openings on the panel. Mr. Gradison, 76, a former Republican representative from Ohio, is one of four original members of the five-member Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. He will temporarily succeed William J. McDonough, who stepped down on Wednesday. To smooth the process of naming a permanent successor and making future appointments, the S.E.C. outlined new procedures that set a timetable for recommending candidates, performing background checks and interviewing them. Under the process, the S.E.C. chairman will lead the search when an auditing board seat comes open. Each commissioner may submit up to three names for consideration. A candidate opposed by at least three commissioners would be eliminated from contention.
